Aker Stadion Molde is one of the most unique football venues in Scandinavia. Located right on the edge of the Romsdalsfjord, Aker Stadion Molde combines dramatic Norwegian nature with modern football architecture. During our visit to Molde, we first spotted Aker Stadion Molde from above at the panoramic viewpoint near Vardestua Restaurant. From that elevated position, the stadium looked almost unreal, sitting directly by the water with mountains in the background.
After enjoying the panorama, we decided to drive down. It is about 15 minutes from the viewpoint to Aker Stadion Molde by car. Seeing it from above is impressive, but standing next to it gives a completely different perspective.
From Vardestua Viewpoint to Aker Stadion
From Vardestua, Aker Stadion Molde stands out clearly against the fjord. The rectangular shape, the clean lines, and the waterfront location make it one of the most photogenic stadiums in Norway.
Once we arrived at the stadium, we parked nearby and walked toward the main entrance. Unfortunately, the stadium was closed during our visit. We were not able to enter the stands or walk inside the complex. Still, walking around Aker Stadion gave a solid impression of the structure and atmosphere.
Behind a large window near the main entrance, we could see a row of trophies on display. Even from outside, it reflects the success of Molde FK and shows that Aker Stadion is home to a serious football club.
The History of Aker Stadion Molde
This stadium officially opened in 1998. The stadium was financed largely by businessman Kjell Inge Røkke through the Aker group, which is why it carries the name Aker Stadion. The stadium replaced Molde Stadion, the club’s former home.

Our Experience
Even though Aker Stadion Molde was closed during our visit, the stop was still worth it. Seeing it first from the Vardestua panoramic viewpoint and then up close created a full experience.
Walking around the stadium, looking at the main entrance, and spotting the trophy display behind the window gave a glimpse into the pride of Molde FK. While we could not enter, Aker Stadion still delivered visually and atmospherically.
