Outpost Pizza Pub & Grill John Day is one of those places you instantly understand once you walk in. It feels local, unapologetically American, and built for hungry travelers, locals, and road trippers passing through eastern Oregon. We visited Outpost Pizza Pub & Grill John Day three times during our stay, breakfast once and dinner twice, and that alone says enough.
A Local Favorite Right on Main Street
Located at 201 West Main Street, Outpost Pizza Pub & Grill John Day sits right in the heart of town. Walk ins are welcome, and every visit we made, we were seated immediately. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, with a clear pub and grill identity. This is a place where people come for real food, not small plates or fancy plating.

First Dinner, Giant Pizza and Beer
Our first visit to Outpost Pizza Pub & Grill John Day was dinner. We ordered pizza and drinks. I grabbed a beer, while Peter had to stick with soda because a passport was still waiting safely back at the Airbnb. Rookie move, but it happens.
The pizza arrived and honestly shocked us. The size was borderline ridiculous. The crust, the toppings, everything felt generous. There was no way we could finish it, so we asked for a doggy bag. No problem at all. Later that evening, back at the Airbnb in John Day, we enjoyed leftover Outpost pizza with a beer, which might be the most American ending to a day imaginable.

Second Dinner, The Unofficial American Pizza Challenge
The second dinner at Outpost Pizza Pub & Grill John Day was intentional. We wanted to see if we could handle it this time. Call it the American Pizza Challenge. Spoiler, we failed again. The portions won. We ate until we were absolutely full and still had leftovers. Once again, the doggy bag saved the evening.
This consistency is important. The portions here are not a one time thing. Outpost Pizza Pub & Grill John Day serves big food, every time.
Breakfast, Pancakes Done Right
Our third visit was breakfast. I ordered the American pancakes, short stack, and Peter ordered the exact same thing. That alone says enough, because normally orders differ on trips. Fluffy pancakes, warm, and perfect with syrup. Simple, classic, and done well. Breakfast at Outpost Pizza Pub & Grill John Day is exactly what you want before a long day on the road.
