Jasons Beachside Grille Lake Tahoe was the very first restaurant we visited after arriving in Kings Beach, and it immediately set the tone for our stay around Lake Tahoe.
After checking into our Airbnb, which was less than a five minute drive from the village center, we asked our host for a solid local recommendation for dinner. Without hesitation, the answer was Jasons Beachside Grille Lake Tahoe. When a local responds that quickly, you know it is a place people actually go to themselves.
Arriving in Kings Beach
First Impressions of Jasons Beachside Grille Lake Tahoe
We drove over shortly after arriving and were seated almost immediately. Unfortunately, the outdoor terrace was closed that evening, so we could only sit inside. That turned out to be absolutely fine, because the interior of Jasons Beachside Grille Lake Tahoe is exactly what you hope for in a classic American lakeside restaurant.
Warm wooden interiors, cozy lighting, sturdy tables, and that unmistakable mountain lodge atmosphere. We were given a spacious table along the wall with large bench seating, almost like our own private nook. It felt relaxed, comfortable, and perfect after a travel day.

Dining Experience Inside
Atmosphere and Seating
Inside, Jasons Beachside Grille Lake Tahoe feels authentic and unpretentious. This is not a trendy or polished restaurant trying too hard. It feels lived in, familiar, and welcoming. Locals sit at the bar, families dine at tables, and travelers pass through, all sharing the same space.
Sports were playing on multiple screens, which immediately added to the American vibe. That evening, a Los Angeles baseball game was on. After checking later, it turned out to be Game 1 of the MLB National League Division Series on October 7, 2023, featuring the Los Angeles Dodgers versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. We did not fully understand the rules, but judging by the reactions around the bar, it was clearly an important game.

Food Choices and Portions
Both Peter and I ordered chicken dishes, and they were exactly what we were hoping for. Generous portions, well seasoned, and filling without being overwhelming. This is classic American comfort food done right.
Even though I already had a sore throat and suspected I might be coming down with something, I decided to order a draft beer anyway. Only when it arrived did I realize how large it was. Nearly half a liter, if not more. A proper American pour, and surprisingly easy to drink.
A Small Travel Panic Moment
Losing My Credit Card
Right before our food arrived, I realized something was wrong. My credit card was gone. We searched the table, our bags, jackets, and pockets. Nothing.
I remembered using it earlier that day but could not recall exactly where. We even called the Sawtooth Station Shell and Texaco on US 95 to ask if anything had been found. Back at the Airbnb later that evening, Peter eventually discovered the card under my car seat. It most likely slipped out while getting into the car when leaving the gas station.
A stressful moment, but also one of those classic road trip stories that somehow make a trip more memorable.
A black bear in Tahoe Vista
When walking to the restaurant, from our Airbnb in town, we encountered a black bear next to the bridge in town. He was laying still and didn’t do a lot, but still very cool. We are from Europe, western Europe, so for us this is a very, very unique situation. Back in Yellowstone we heard there were some bears nearby, we only saw them as a small dot, but now over here in Tahoe Vista, we actually saw it a few meters/ feet from ourselves.

Evening Drinks at the Bar
Returning After Dinner
After dinner, we drove back to the Airbnb to rest for a bit, but later that evening we decided to walk back into Kings Beach. On the way, we passed Bear Belly Brewing Company, which unfortunately was already closing, but Jasons Beachside Grille Lake Tahoe was still open.
We took seats at the bar for one final round.

Beer, Cocktails, and Closing Time
I ordered another American beer, while Peter went for a cocktail from the specialty drinks menu. Jasons Beachside Grille Lake Tahoe offers a wide drink selection, ranging from draft beers and bottled options to classic cocktails like Bloody Marys, margaritas, and seasonal warm drinks.
One small downside is the closing time. On weekdays, the restaurant closes at 9:00 PM, which meant the evening ended a bit earlier than planned. Still, it was the perfect way to end our first night in Kings Beach.
