We parked the car right at the waterfront. For us, coming from the Netherlands, this felt almost surreal. Crystal clear water, a deep blue sky without a single cloud, and the feeling that you are standing at the edge of something vast and untouched. We walked toward the entrance and checked in at the reception, which is located inside the restaurant area. The check in was smooth and relaxed. We received our instructions, our key, and that typical Scandinavian calm vibe that instantly slows you down.

First Steps Into the Apartment Style Room

After checking in, we walked around the building and entered through a separate door. Stairs up, quiet hallway, and then our room. The moment the door opened, the layout surprised us in a positive way.

You first enter a hallway. On the left side is the bedroom with two separate single beds. Simple, clean, and practical. The bathroom is also connected here. It was perfectly fine in terms of cleanliness and usability, but it did feel a bit dated. Nothing bad, just clearly older compared to the rest of the room.

Walking further down the hallway, you pass a small but functional kitchen. There is a stovetop, a ventilation hood, and a fridge. Everything you need if you want to cook something simple yourself, which is actually very convenient in a place like this.

Living Room, Television, and a Historic Moment

The hallway opens into the living room. A small couch, a table, and a television facing the water side. We turned on the TV shortly after arriving, and that is when something unexpected happened.

On the screen, we saw the live news report announcing the passing of Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom, at the age of 96. Sitting there, in northern Norway, far from home, watching a historic moment unfold live on television, made the experience strangely surreal. Travel sometimes places you right in the middle of history without warning, and this was one of those moments.

The Balcony, Honest Thoughts

The balcony was part of the upgrade, and this is where honesty matters. While it is nice to have a private outdoor space, the balcony itself is very small. It feels more like a place for smokers or for standing outside briefly with a drink rather than somewhere to truly sit and relax.

You can enjoy the fresh air and the view for a short moment, but it is not a balcony where you would spend hours. Calling it an upgrade makes sense for the view, but not necessarily for the space itself.

Restaurant Experience and Pricing

There is a restaurant on site, but during our stay it was not fully operational. The menu was very limited, and based on what we saw, the pricing felt high for what was offered. We decided not to eat there.

In our experience at Lødingen Brygge Hotel Norway, there was also no breakfast available on site. This is something to keep in mind when booking, especially if you expect a classic hotel breakfast in the morning. For us, it was not a dealbreaker, but it is an important detail.

Northern Lights at Lødingen Brygge Hotel Norway

One of the most unforgettable moments of the entire stay happened outside the hotel. This was the first time we ever saw the Northern Lights.

We decided to walk further out, past the hotel area, toward Lødingen Lighthouse and the nearby camper area. We kept walking all the way to the back, where we found a small harbor. Even with some light pollution around, the sky slowly began to change.

At first, everything looked like it could be the Northern Lights. Subtle glows, reflections from the horizon, light bouncing off the mountains. Coming from a place where skies are usually flat and gray, every change felt magical.

Using our iPhone 11 and iPhone 10, we started noticing something on the screens before we could clearly see it with our eyes. The sky slowly turned light green, mixed with a lot of white glow. It was subtle, not dramatic curtains of color, but incredibly impressive because it was real, quiet, and natural.

Seeing the Northern Lights for the first time at Lødingen Brygge Hotel Norway made this place unforgettable for us. It was calm, raw, and emotional in a way you cannot really prepare for.

Northern Lights Experience

Hjortholmen Northern Lights Spot was not planned, bookmarked, or marked on any aurora map. It happened because we decided to leave the warmth of dinner behind and step into the Arctic night. After eating at Mama Rosa in Lødingen, Peter and I felt that familiar feeling of restlessness. Norwegian television, a quiet harbor, and the sense that the evening still had more to offer.

This stay felt special not because everything was perfect, but because of where we were, who we were with, and what we experienced there. The location is outstanding, the apartment style room is practical and comfortable, and the surroundings are simply beautiful.

Some elements are dated, the balcony is small, the restaurant felt overpriced, and there was no breakfast during our stay. But the water views, the road trip feeling, and witnessing the Northern Lights for the first time made Lødingen Brygge Hotel Norway one of the most memorable hotels we stayed at so far.
