Our first encounter with Westfalenkrug Wuppertal was on a Friday evening. We arrived expecting a lively pub atmosphere, but the bar area closed at 21:00. That was genuinely disappointing and felt early, especially for a traditional German kroeg style setting. Because of that, we decided to return the next day for dinner instead.

The atmosphere was calm, classic, and comfortable, exactly what you want after a long travel day. For two schnitzels, multiple drinks, and a complimentary starter, staying just around fifty euros felt almost old fashioned in the best possible way.
Biergarten and Hotel, What We Did Not See
During our visit in July and August, the Biergarten of Westfalenkrug Wuppertal was unfortunately closed. This was a shame, as it looks like a highlight during warmer months. We did not stay in the hotel section and therefore cannot personally review the rooms. Our visit focused entirely on the restaurant experience.

Final Verdict
Westfalenkrug Wuppertal is a place we would happily return to for dinner. Honest food, friendly service, fair prices, and a welcoming atmosphere outweigh the small disappointment of the early pub closing. If you are staying nearby or looking for a reliable German restaurant, this place delivers. It was just in front our hotel “Aal-Kate”, so we would return for a beer as well!
