Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg review is a strange one to write in 2026, because the restaurant no longer exists. The former Jensens Bøfhus in Sønderborg was located at Perlegade 36, right in the center of the city, and that already made it an easy place to remember. It was not hidden away on some boring road outside town. It sat in a walkable part of Sønderborg, close to shops, city life, and a parking option that worked for us, even if I still do not know if we were officially supposed to park there.
We visited this Jensens Bøfhus in both 2019 and 2022, but this Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg review is mainly based on the 2022 visit. The photos come from both years, which honestly fits the story well, because this place was not a one time random stop for us. It became part of our personal Denmark travel memories. And yes, it is a real shame that this location is now permanently closed.

Why This Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg Review Still Matters In 2026
This Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg review still matters because closed places can still be worth writing about. Travel is not only about what you can book today. Sometimes it is about places that were part of a certain trip, a certain mood, or a certain chapter. Jensens Bøfhus Sønderborg was exactly that kind of place for us.
The chain itself still exists in 2026, but in fewer places than before. Jensens Bøfhus has clearly changed over the years, and the wider story around the brand feels different now that Bone’s has taken over the Danish restaurants. For some people that may just sound like business. For us, as fans of the chain, it feels like watching an old travel favorite slowly fade away. We are still holding on until the bitter end, because Jensens Bøfhus has always been one of those Danish restaurant chains that felt reliable, simple, and fun.
I also wrote about the Kolding location before, and that one is relevant as background, but this review is not about Kolding. Sønderborg deserves its own memory. This location had its own vibe, its own city center setting, and its own slightly chaotic but ultimately great 2022 visit.

Our 2022 Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg Review Experience
This Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg review starts before we even entered the restaurant. In 2022, we made a reservation by email, because the online reservation system required a phone number from Scandinavia or Germany. At that time, I did not have a Swedish phone number yet. In 2026 I do, which makes this little detail kind of funny in hindsight, but back then it was slightly annoying.
Luckily, reserving by email worked fine. Calling or emailing was a perfectly usable solution, and the staff handled it well enough. That is also a small tip for travelers, if a booking system refuses your number, do not give up immediately. A direct message or phone call can still solve the problem.
When we arrived, we ran into a second issue. We had a Dutch COVID certificate, but their system did not seem to accept it properly. For a moment, it looked like we might not get inside at all, which would have been a pretty frustrating way to lose a dinner reservation. Thankfully, the branch manager helped us out, handled the situation calmly, and eventually allowed us to enter.
That moment could have ruined the evening, but it did not. Once we were inside, the experience turned around quickly.
The Table And The Atmosphere
For this Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg review, the atmosphere deserves a positive mention. We got a nice table, the restaurant felt comfortable, and it had that classic Jensens Bøfhus feeling. Nothing too fancy, nothing too forced, just a casual steakhouse atmosphere where you sit down, order something filling, and enjoy a simple dinner after a travel day.
That is exactly why I like this chain. Jensens Bøfhus never had to be luxury dining. It worked because it was recognizable. You knew the type of food, the portion sizes, the sauces, the ribs, the fries, the soft drinks, and the general feel of the place. For travelers like us, that kind of reliability is underrated.

Food In This Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg Review
The heart of any Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg review has to be the food. In 2022, both of us ordered the popular ribs, and that was absolutely the right choice. The ribs were filling, tasty, and exactly the kind of meal you want from a Danish family steakhouse. Not complicated, not tiny, not overly polished, just proper comfort food.
We also ordered large soft drinks, and those drinks were huge. Not just normal large, but seriously big. It was the kind of size where you look at the glass and immediately know you made the correct travel dinner decision. After a long day, that just hits differently.

The Ribs Were The Right Choice
If someone asked me what to order at Jensens Bøfhus, I would still think about the ribs first. In Sønderborg, they were very good. They were rich, flavorful, and heavy enough that you did not leave hungry. That is one of the strongest memories from this visit. The food did exactly what we hoped it would do.
This Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg review would not be complete without mentioning that the meal was seriously filling. It was the kind of dinner where you walk out satisfied and probably do not need anything else for the rest of the evening.

The Fries Were Fantastic
The fries were a major highlight. They were thick, flavorful, and closer to the Flemish style of fries than the thin fast food type. I am not saying that as a technical food expert, but that is how they felt to me. Big, satisfying, and actually memorable.
The sauce on the side was not really my thing. I know Jensens is known for sauces, but I personally prefer barbecue sauce as my go to sauce. That is just my taste. The fries themselves did not need much help anyway, because they were already really good.
Location And Parking Near Jensens Bøfhus In Sønderborg
From a travel point of view, this Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg review gets extra points for the location. The restaurant was central enough to feel like part of the city, but still practical enough for us as road trippers. It was not one of those places where you have to circle around forever just to find a spot.
We parked near a supermarket, and it was free. I honestly do not know if that was officially the correct parking option, so I would mark parking as unknown rather than confidently recommending it. But for us, it worked. We parked, walked to the restaurant, ate a great meal, and continued the evening without stress.
That is often what matters most during a road trip. Not every stop needs to be a big attraction. Sometimes a good restaurant, an easy parking situation, and a full stomach are enough to make a place stick in your memory.

Why The Closure Still Feels Like A Shame
A closed restaurant can be hard to review, but this Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg review is more of a memory based travel review than a current visitor guide. And as a memory, Jensens Bøfhus Sønderborg scores very well. Both in 2019 and 2022, we had a good time here. The 2022 visit had a slightly messy start because of the certificate issue, but the staff helped, the food delivered, and the evening ended positively.
That makes the closure feel extra unfortunate. It was not a bad location in our experience. It was central, the food was good, and it gave us exactly the kind of Jensens Bøfhus dinner we hoped for. When places like this disappear, it feels like a small piece of travel routine disappears with them.
The Bone’s Era And The Future Of Jensens Bøfhus
In 2026, this Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg review also sits inside a bigger story. Jensens Bøfhus is no longer the same chain it once was. Some locations are gone, others continue, and the Danish restaurant scene has clearly moved on in different directions. With Bone’s now involved, the future of the brand may continue in another form.
Still, for fans like us, the emotional side is simple. We liked Jensens Bøfhus. We still like Jensens Bøfhus. We are not ready to let go of it yet.
That is why we still have a reservation planned in Copenhagen in 2026. The Sønderborg location may be gone, but our Jensens Bøfhus story is not over yet.

Would I Return To Jensens Bøfhus Sønderborg?
If Jensens Bøfhus Sønderborg were still open, yes, I would return. That answer is easy. We had good food, a nice table, big drinks, excellent fries, and a memorable evening. Even with the small issues at the start, the final experience was positive.
This Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg review is not meant to claim that the restaurant was perfect. It was a casual chain restaurant, not a fine dining destination. But it was exactly what we wanted at that moment. It gave us a relaxed dinner in Sønderborg, and it became one of those simple travel memories that feels better with time.

Final Thoughts On This Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg Review
That is why this Jensens Bofhus Sonderborg review deserves a place on my blog. The restaurant may be permanently closed in 2026, but it still represents a good travel memory from Denmark. We visited in 2019 and 2022, and both times it was enjoyable. The 2022 dinner especially stands out because of the email reservation, the awkward COVID certificate moment, the helpful branch manager, the ribs, the huge drinks, and those fantastic thick fries.
Would I recommend this exact location today? Of course not, because it is gone. But would I recommend remembering it as a good former Sønderborg restaurant? Absolutely. Jensens Bøfhus Sønderborg was simple, filling, friendly enough, and fun in the way only a familiar travel chain can be.
And for us, the Jensens Bøfhus story continues. Copenhagen is next.
