Park Hotel Yellowstone is a western styled hotel located right in the heart of Gardiner, Montana, directly next to the Yellowstone North Entrance. If you want to stay as close as possible to Yellowstone National Park while still sleeping in a character filled historic building, this hotel clearly positions itself as a unique option. We checked in our room, number 201. We passed by the National Park of Teton, after we left Salt Lake City in the state of Utah.
Location, Gardiner MT and the Yellowstone North Entrance
Park Hotel Yellowstone sits at 107 Main St, Gardiner, Montana, just steps away from the Roosevelt Arch, the original and only year round open entrance to Yellowstone National Park. This location is one of the biggest strengths of the hotel. From here, you can drive straight into Mammoth Hot Springs, Lamar Valley, Tower Falls, and even Cooke City during winter months, something no other entrance allows year round according to the hotel documentation .
Gardiner itself is compact, walkable, and practical. Restaurants, bars, shops, grocery stores, and tour operators are all within a few minutes on foot.
Booking Experience, Direct and Different
Park Hotel Yellowstone can only be booked through their own website. It is not listed on Booking.com, Airbnb, or other hotel platforms. This makes the booking feel personal, but also means you need to read the conditions carefully.
The website design is very western and country inspired, and the room photos look exactly like the real thing. What you see online is what you get in reality, which is refreshing.
Rooms are not cheap, especially compared to chain hotels, but you are paying for location, style, and character rather than luxury.
Our Room, Layout and Comfort
We stayed in a Bunk Bed Suite with one queen bed and one bunk bed. Both beds were comfortable, especially the queen bed. The mattress felt deep and supportive, and sleep quality was genuinely good. The bunk bed was fine, but noticeably smaller and more basic compared to the main bed.
There was also a sofa bed from IKEA. This one stood out negatively. It was clearly old, sagging, and overdue for replacement. If you plan to use the sofa bed, expect limited comfort.

The kitchen is one of the strongest parts of the suite. Styled in a rustic western theme, it is fully usable, not decorative.
You get a gas stove with hood, microwave, cookware, plates, and utensils. The refrigerator is modern, clean, and includes a freezer compartment. Space wise, this is unusually large for a hotel kitchen, making cooking genuinely practical.
For groceries, Ridley’s Family Markets at 701 Scott Street, Gardiner is perfect. It offers fresh food, drinks, and local Montana products. We even bought straw cowboy hats there, which perfectly matched the Yellowstone vibe.
Bathroom Experience, Functional but Flawed
The bathroom is clean and functional, but the shower height is a real issue. The shower is mounted very low, making it uncomfortable for taller guests. Water hits around stomach level rather than shoulders.
The bathtub itself works fine, but if you prefer standing showers, this is something to consider seriously. A fun detail is the bear claw light switch, which fits the Montana wildlife theme perfectly.
Shared Spaces, Games and Outdoor Areas
The hotel hallway contains cabinets filled with board games, including themed games like Yellowstone Monopoly. It is not clearly stated if guests may freely use them, but they add to the atmosphere.
Outside, the hotel offers:

Street parking along Main Street appears free, but always double check local signage on your travel dates.
A fun surprise was a storage chest containing Christmas decorations. We turned our room into a Christmas themed space in October, purely by accident. Unexpected, but memorable.

We chose to eat at Cowboy Lodge and Grill at 303 Second St S, Gardiner, where we had both breakfast and dinner. This worked well and matched the western atmosphere. Park Hotel Yellowstone does NOT have a restaurant or breakfast menu/ selection, so be aware of this before you book. There are other options beside this lodge, just like a local supermarket around in Gardiner, after passing the Gardiner bridge.
Iron Horse Bar and Grill appeared closed multiple times despite Google Maps stating it was open, so availability may be unreliable.
