IKEA Hotell Älmhult is one of those places where curiosity, design, travel, and comfort collide. Arriving around 6:00 PM in Älmhult, Sweden, our goal was simple. Check in fast, drop our bags, and figure out dinner. After a smooth arrival, we checked in at the reception and received the keycard for room 126. From the start, the experience felt surprisingly effortless.

Finding our room turned out to be incredibly easy. Room 126 was literally just around the corner from the main hallway. Even though we initially misunderstood the wall signage, the information printed directly on the walls guided us perfectly. This system is one of those small IKEA-style design choices that simply works. Functional, clear, and intuitive.
The hotel itself immediately feels spacious and calm. Wide corridors, plenty of light, and a welcoming atmosphere make IKEA Hotell Älmhult feel more like a home than a standard hotel.

We booked a room with two bunk beds and a private bathroom. The room layout was practical and clean, exactly what you expect from a place that lives and breathes Scandinavian design. The keycard system controls the power by placing the card in a holder near the entrance, which activates the lights and electricity.
The room appeared to be connected to room 124 through an internal door, but there was absolutely no noise or disturbance from neighboring rooms. Sound insulation was better than expected, which made the stay extra comfortable.
The bathroom itself was simple but solid. A good shower, a proper sink, and a clean toilet. The only downside here was the lack of a lock on the bathroom door, which felt slightly inconvenient. Still, everything functioned well and felt fresh and well maintained.
Overall, the room felt cozy, efficient, and surprisingly pleasant. A great example of how IKEA Hotell Älmhult translates everyday living into hospitality.
The view from our room was out on the inner garden. There’s no grass, it’s most likely tiles, gravel and a small cabin. There’s outdoor seating available as well, but we did not use this, as the weather was not like it. The skies were blue, but to sit outside, wasn’t really our call.
Dinner at the In House IKEA Restaurant
After settling in, we immediately started thinking about food. Luckily, there was no need to leave the hotel. We decided to eat at the in house IKEA restaurant, which focuses on homemade style dishes.
I ordered the homemade burger, and honestly, it was very good. Juicy, well seasoned, and clearly prepared with care. We also tried local beers from the menu, which added a nice regional touch to the experience. The combination of familiar comfort food and local flavors worked really well.

Evening Walks and Relaxing at IKEA Hotell Älmhult
Across the street from IKEA Hotell Älmhult sits the IKEA Museum, which we already planned to visit the next day. Knowing it was just a short walk away made the hotel’s location even better.
That evening, we decided to head into nature for a short walk. We ended up near an old campsite, but with the sun setting quickly, we didn’t stay long. Once it got darker, we returned to the hotel to wind down.
Back in the room, we grabbed my Nintendo Switch OLED and spent the evening playing Mario Kart. While enjoying a freshly tapped beer, we also booked our hotel for the next day in Stockholm. It was one of those relaxed travel moments that just feels right. After a shower, we climbed into the bunk beds and had a great night’s sleep.
Breakfast at IKEA Hotell Älmhult
The next morning, we woke up feeling calm and rested. Breakfast was served in the IKEA restaurant, further toward the back section this time. The breakfast setup was extensive, with multiple islands offering a wide variety of food.
However, this was the only part of the stay where expectations were not fully met. While the selection was large, the quality felt inconsistent. The croissants were very dry, and the Swedish meatballs seemed like leftovers from the previous day, overly dry and not what you normally expect from IKEA.
This was a bit disappointing, especially considering the otherwise high standard of the hotel. Still, the breakfast was filling, and there were plenty of options for different preferences.
Checkout and Heading to the IKEA Museum
After breakfast, we checked out at the reception without any issues. The staff was friendly and efficient, just as during check in. From there, we headed straight to the IKEA Museum, located directly across from the hotel.
The proximity of IKEA Hotell Älmhult to the museum is a huge advantage. It makes the hotel an ideal base for anyone interested in IKEA history, design, or simply exploring Älmhult.

All things considered, our stay at IKEA Hotell Älmhult was genuinely enjoyable. The hotel combines comfort, functionality, and a strong identity rooted in IKEA’s philosophy. The rooms are practical and cozy, the restaurant offers solid dinner options, and the overall atmosphere feels relaxed and welcoming.
While there is room for improvement when it comes to breakfast quality, everything else easily compensates for that. From location to design to overall experience, IKEA Hotell Älmhult delivers something truly unique.
This is not just a novelty hotel. It is a thoughtfully designed place that feels like home. A solid recommendation and, despite the breakfast critique, still a strong ten out of ten experience.
